“The Conejos has been fishing great. The flows out of the reservoir are about 40 cfs now, with the lower Conejos at 280 cfs… stoneflies and some larger mayfly nymphs working the best right now.”

Local Waters

Three rivers.
One high‑country valley.

The Conejos is the largest tributary of the Rio Grande. We guide it from the Platoro tailwater meadows to the walk-in fly water east of Antonito — plus two smaller rivers most anglers never find.

01

The Lower Conejos

Running along Hwy 17 east of Antonito, the Conejos offers several miles of walk-in trout fishing. From Aspen Glade campground to Menkhaven, the “fly water” gives easy access to some great fishing.

02

The Upper Meadows

Tailwater below Platoro Reservoir — three miles of high mountain meadow. The upper meadow is a serpentine wonder that cries out for a visit.

03

Rio de los Pinos

Great dry-fly fishing from late June through July. We guide upper sections that run along the Cumbres & Toltec Railroad — nice browns and some of the best scenery in southern Colorado.

04

The La Jara

Remote canyon meadows on the upper river. Wonderful brookies and browns — a rugged river that is a real pleasure to fish.

Your Guides

Six guides who live on this water

Valley-raised anglers and career guides — the crew at the shop has spent decades combined on the Conejos and the backcountry streams around it.

On the water with Conejos River Anglers

KK

Has extensively fished the Conejos and the backcountry streams in the area. If smaller streams are your desire, KK is the guide for the job.

Tom

His 10th season on the Conejos, after seven years at High Desert Anglers in Santa Fe. An avid angler and hunter.

Micah

Starting his 8th season. Second-generation Keys family angler, raised in the valley, with an anthropology degree from the University of New Mexico.

Bode

On for his 4th season. Fishing the valley from a young age, he loves chasing the bigger fish in the river — and helps out in the shop.

Diondre

A native Coloradan raised in Monte Vista, fishing the waters of southern Colorado all his life.

Julian

Entering his third season, with a wildlife biology degree from Adams State and a strong understanding of the Conejos and its fisheries.
